I ask the question once more, am I too old to start writing? I was born in Manchester three months before D-day, before the Omaha landings. I mention Omaha, as one of my characters stowed away on a landing craft and made it through the carnage.
Everyone writes for one reason or another, I started out of boredom, having lead a rather "active" life.
I live in Germany with my German-born wife. We have three grown-up responsible children and one grandchild.
There's not much going on here, all the films are dubbed in German, the TV industry as far as entertainment goes is a joke, an unfunny joke, that's why I write.
I've written quite a few stories, good stories, but badly written. I happened upon this site quite by chance and it is one of my best sources of information.
Somebody once said, "The good thing about writing is you don't have to get it right the first time, not like a brain surgeon, there's always the..." We know this to be true, and I would like to recommend to every person who decides to start a writing career to take all criticism without bitching or feeling insulted.
I was on Harper Collins "Authonomy" for a while, if you haven't been there then you have saved yourself the trouble of having your ass kissed by other beginner authors who tell you- "I think your book is the bees knees and can you back my book so I can get it published, please"
I did learn something, about human nature, some people will do anything to get their book printed, but of all the - 60 per year- books that hit the editors desk on authonomy, not one was published by HC.
I would like to read your views on narrative distance-past perfec- third person, also "Comma or Full Stop", after - he said and after- He leaned closer and his lips brushed her ear.- "Dialogue."
Also, when is a glass half-empty and when is it half-full, the same goes for, half-dead and half-alive. That's the problem with dyslexia and getting older, words sometimes confuse me.
William.
